Bertha Turnbull

I grew up on a small farm in South Hamilton MA with Mom, Dad and five brothers and sisters.  Both of my parents were involved in both show and racehorses so I guess one could say that it was “in my blood” from the time I was born.  As a child, I showed hunters and went fox hunting with the Myopia hounds, while spending school vacations at my Grandfather's farm in North Carolina, galloping steeplechase horses.

After completing college with a business degree, I found myself at the Fair Hill Training Center working with racehorses.  After a few trips back home - attempting to use my college education – I returned to Fair Hill and began to gallop for trainer Andrea Morris.  I have to say these were some of the most enjoyable years to date.  Andrea had a barn of about 20 horses.  She had both flat and steeplechase horses and each fall we would break anywhere for 8 to 20 yearlings.  As time went by I got a couple of Steeplechase horses to train and began to spend my winters at my Grandfather’s farm in Southern Pines.

In the summer of ‘97, I decided it was time for a change.  Although I had met my husband to be (I didn’t know it at the time), I decided to move back to Hamilton and get a “real job”.  I went to work for Suffolk Downs in the Public Relations department and continued my long distance relationship.  In July of 1999 I married Geoff Turnbull (the most enjoyable day to date) and moved back to Pennsylvania.  In February of 2000 I began to work for Equine Veterinary Care, PC.  as a veterinary assistant.  The past 6 years have been ones of growth for both me and Equine Veterinary care.  As for as the clinic goes, I have learned a great deal about veterinary medicine and all of the latest technology.  I have enjoyed being a part of the decision making team and watching the practice grow.  As for myself, Geoff and I have two great kids, David and Ellie and we have a nice home in Landenberg, PA.
