Pre-Purchase Exams & Auction Sales Work
A significant part of our practice is related to the diagnosis and treatment of sports medicine related injuries. This background and imaging expertise allows our veterinarians to perform thorough examinations prior to a buyer’s purchase of either race and sport horses. Our veterinarians work with local, regional, national and international buyers in the acquisition of their bloodstock at public sales or at the farm.
Our examinations fall into one of three general categories:
1) Repository survey radiographs for weanlings, yearlings and two year olds in training sales prior to various public auctions and while working at Fasig-Tipton Timonium
2) Private Thoroughbred sales work at various Mid-Atlantic racetracks and training centers
3) Extensive sport horse pre-purchase examinations on the farm, at an event or at our clinic
We work closely with your veterinarian, insurer and/or farrier at home and if need arises, we can share results and digital imaging with them in a timely manner to help ensure a seamless transfer of ownership.
Things to consider before requesting a pre-purchase examination include but are not limited to: 1) current use, 2) intended use, 3) re-sale prospects 4) digital imaging required 5) bloodwork 6) reproductive status 7) endoscopy, etc.
